“From saws to cut throat razors and every tool and instrument in between – a collection of world significance.”

One man’s lifetime collection of tools from Sheffield and afar.

The Hawley collection is a unique and comprehensive record of tool making, cutlery manufacture and silversmithing. It is the product of over 50 years of collecting by Ken Hawley, a former tool retailer in Sheffield and champion of Sheffield’s industrial heritage.

The new gallery was created in a refurbished industrial building on the Kelham Island Museum site. The project included a programme of temporary interactive displays & exhibitions. The aim was to enable the wider community to admire and learn more about the items in the collection.
